The System– 12
Heroes of Character
Main Idea: After some kick-off activities about personal
responsibility, each month you get a magazine and a
DVD about a leading Australasian hero who stands for
a distinct character quality.
Once a month in teams and work groups you watch, read,
study and discuss each hero and the character quality
in question. Then your people are invited to take action
on those character qualities.
Consequently your workplace (and homes too by the
way) become places where those admirable quailites
are acknowledged and practised on a day by day basis.
That means: less trouble, stress and waste; more productivity,
communication and happiness.

The Surveys
Our polls of thousands Australasian workers and managers
have told us the values and attitudes that make great
workplaces, strong businesses and sweet customer
relations. So we've picked the top 12 Core Character
Qualities™, matched them to 12 national heroes
and created a 12 month series of colour magazines,
DVDs, posters and meeting tools to make it easy for
anyone to create and manage a Culture of Character. (Back

The Secret– Hearts
and Minds
Founder Colin Pearce says, "I
am fed up with management systems that treat people
like lab rats. KPIs, quotas, work rate, strike rate,
performance management – all fine an
d fancy but they don't nourish the hearts and minds
of the people. So the systems collapse
until the next management fad pops up. This is why
I say, 'When all else fails, character works'." (Back

The Success – A
Very Impressed User Writes...
"Home Ownership Company began the Character Works program in August 2006. The
intent behind starting the program was to show our team that "stuff happens",
teach them how to make "stuff" happen less and also educate them on
how to deal better with the "stuff"!
The Character Works journey has allowed Home Ownership
Company's team to look within themselves and to understand
their character qualities and why we react to certain
things the way we do. The program has provided
tools and education to show us how to turn things around
to a positive instead of a reactive and negative action.
The Home Ownership Company group has dedicated itself
through the Character Works program to being an "Organisation
of Character" and as such we have seen a positive
shift in our company's culture.
We have been so impressed with the Character Works
program that we have decided to go through it all again
for a second year in a row! We believe every
organisation should run this program - the positive
benefits you will see are incredible and yet they are
not so apparent at the start.
